This June, the South Coast Creative Arts Lab invites the community to come together in celebration of student creativity, growth, and expression at its Spring 2026 Student Showcase. Taking place on Tuesday, June 9th at 6:00 PM at the Narrows Center for the Arts - 3rd Floor, 16 Anawan Street, Fall River, the event highlights the work of students from Talbot Middle School and Watson Elementary School who have spent the semester immersed in the arts.

Ms. Bennett's Art Class - Talbot Middle School

Over the past several months, these students have met weekly after-school to explore both visual and performing arts. More than just an arts program, the South Coast Creative Arts Lab creates a space where young people can build confidence, collaborate with peers, and express themselves in meaningful ways. Through creativity, students are supported not only artistically, but also in their overall well-being. Through painting, drawing, mixed media, performance, and group collaboration, participants have had the opportunity to explore new artistic techniques while building confidence and meaningful connections with their peers and mentors.

The showcase will feature a dynamic range of student work offering a glimpse into the imagination and dedication of each participant. It’s an opportunity for families, educators, and community members to witness firsthand the impact of arts programming. The program emphasizes the importance of accessible arts education and the positive role creative expression can play in supporting youth development, especially during formative years. “Our goal is to create a space where students feel seen, heard, and empowered—where creativity becomes a tool for both personal growth and connection,” says SCCAL Programs Manager Michelle Borges. “When students are given the freedom to express themselves and explore their ideas, it builds confidence that extends far beyond the classroom.”

Behind the scenes, a dedicated group of educators and creative guests guided students throughout the semester, helping cultivate an environment rooted in encouragement, curiosity, and creative exploration. Special thank you goes to Ms. Mullen and Ms. Couto from Watson Elementary School, and Mr. Barker, Mr. Chan, and Ms. Bennett from Talbot Middle School for their ongoing commitment to nurturing student creativity and growth every day.

Week after week, these educators brought enthusiasm, mentorship, and real-world arts and cultural experiences into the classroom—sharing contemporary creative practices, introducing students to new ideas and forms of expression, and helping inspire the next generation of artists, thinkers, and cultural leaders. Their dedication helped create meaningful opportunities for students to feel supported, engaged, and empowered through the arts.
